LAUNCHING AT EDGEHILL GLIDING CENTRE
WINCH LAUNCHING
After being attached by a steel cable to our winch at the far end of the airfield, a cry of ‘all out’ signals the start of an exhilarating ride. The winch’s powerful engine pulls the glider into the air and it climbs steeply, approaching speeds of 80mph. After a few seconds you will have reached a height of 1000ft or so. It is an experience that few forget!
AEROTOWING
This time your glider is attached by a rope to our ex-RAF tug plane, which tows it to several thousand feet over the airfield. This is a much more gentle launch compared with the winch.
After releasing above the beautiful Cotswolds landscape, we begin our gentle descent back to the ground…or if we’re lucky we might find some lift which will keep us soaring for a few minutes extra!
